"The Little Way is the way of faithfulness and love in the small things of every day.”
--Mark and Louise Zwick, founders of the Houston Catholic Worker
I believe that for us Catholics, the incredible visual power of design has tremendous potential in evangelizing and opening our hearts to the divine. I see how my kids, some who can't even utter words yet, are able recognize logos and brands and are deeply affected by them (try giving your child the generic Goldfish bag as opposed to the real thing!). So I want my kids and our family to be surrounded by images that remind us who we are, where we came from, where we want to go (heaven) and what we need to do to get there.
That's why I created Little Way Design Co: to share those images with other Catholics who would like to make them part of their lives as well.
From Mass bags for children, rosary pouches, coffee mugs to apparel, we wish to share the love of Christ and neighbor through our designs. All the designs in Little Way Design Co. are a reflection of the journey our family is making as pilgrims, as parents, as spouses, as friends, as children of God, as citizens of the world... they are the result of many Lectio Divina sessions, holy hours, morning prayers, offerings, things that we need--in practical terms-- in our family... So, we decided to share them with the world!
I'm Katerina, the designer behind Little Way Design Company. I'm a Catholic mom of five and this year--incredibly--marks the 12th anniversary of marriage to my husband! I'm a Chemical Engineer by training and worked in the oil refining industry for almost 10 years.
I obtained my Masters in Pastoral Studies, which gave me a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the history of the Church, biblical theology, lives of the saints, and more... many of the designs you see around here were conceived during my time in graduate school, but a lot of them have been conceived mostly in the beautifully chaotic rhythm of our family life.
My husband, my partner in chaos, helps me with conceiving designs, checking them before I release new items, so he is definitely my quality control guy and also my creative director when I get stuck without inspiration!
Our five children... they are the inspiration of most of my designs. God has granted me the marvelous gift and privilege to be the mother of five little people who teach me daily about love, patience, wonder, innocence, compromise, frustration, playfulness, sadness, silliness, joy... oh yes... joy. I love to see the world through their eyes: to see everything with wonder, joy, humility, and admiration because as St. Thérèse said, "Everything is grace." The great majority of everything I create is a result of the journey I share with these little hearts full of wonder.
About the Little Way
"God would never inspire me with desires which cannot be realized; so, in spite of my littleness, I can hope to be a Saint. I could never grow up. I must put up with myself as I am, full of imperfections, but I will find a little way to Heaven, very short and direct, an entirely new way."
--St. Thérèse of Lisieux
The "little things" and the "child-like" approach to the world very much informs my spirituality now as a mother more than ever. I appreciate the little way as a mother, because we do so much as parents: so many little things that seem insignificant and that at the end of the day, in terms of productivity. They don't seem to amount to much, but those "little things" are the ones that truly change the world: teaching the love of God and living faithfully immersed in His infinite mercy.
I am forever grateful to the great doctor of the Church, St. Thérèse of Lisieux, for showing us the "little way" to heaven as a possible means to walk closer with God during our time of exile.
Thank you for appreciating my designs and for making them part of your life as we walk together in this pilgrimage.
St. Thérese, age 15
